While in the air, I had the even rarer pleasure of interacting with a flight attendant who truly went above and beyond.
From the moment we stepped on the plane, she everything she could, including things not in her job description, to ensure that we had the best possible flying experience we could. She anticipated needs. She always gave service with a smile, even when one was not being returned to her. This was her home, and she was being such an incredible host.
So what did I do? When I got off the plant, I told her how great I thought she was.
I didn't do this because I'm such a good person. I complimented her because when someone is excellent, we should call it out.
Think of the last time someone complimented yo on a job well done. Did that not inspire you to keep doing that thing? To do it even better?
This is the gift we give someone when we call out excellence: the permission to be continually be excellent.
