I am now in the midst of producing my first play at Carnegie Mellon University's Playground, a festival of student works. This experience, although it has only lasted two days so far, has informed my writing process immensely. I have a wonderful team of actors and designers working on the show with me and I have just marveled at how the Lord has made us all so specifically and so differently, and how each individual mind works in its own incredible, individual way. One person notices one thing because of the way God wired them, but then another person notices something completely different. It's amazing to me. And the play has only gotten better because of their presence in the creative process. From simply doing a first read of the play and talking about it with the team, the world of the play has gotten more specific, the characters have more depth, I have learned where I have made mistakes, and what my pitfalls are as a writer. It's has truly been a humbling and educational experience.
As a creator, no matter what the vocation or media, there is nothing more valuable then the observations and feedback of a few people whom you really trust.
