We never forget what it felt like when the entire music class laughed at us the first time we sang a solo. We always remember the nasty YouTube comment or magazine review. Hateful words from an ex-boyfriend firmly fix themselves in our memory, often threatening to take up permanent residence. These types of words are far more dangerous than most actions. There are no pills to cure a broken heart or a shattered dream.
Conversely, we still remember the personal compliment our first grade teacher gave us on the poem we wrote. We take screen shots of loving text messages or tweets that make our day. The reassuring words of a mother can make even the darkest circumstances seem brighter.
Our words have power.
Power to build.
Power to destroy.
Power to grow.
And power to stifle.
What will you use your words for?
