Now Afrocka was not my idea, nor do I have anything to do with the organization other than being a now avid supporter. But the Afrocka team and I have a shared vision. A vision that art and creativity can mobilize a community to do more then just listen to music and scream and dance. That art, when it is centered on the Lord and serving his people, can be an amazing venue to bring positive change to the world.
The theme for Afrocka this year was Hope. And last night, as I left the event I was filled with new hope that not only was my dream important and could come true, but that there were others out there who believe the same thing I do, that creativity mixed with a servants heart, moves mountains, and ends droughts.
In light of my new inspiration, God really spoke to my heart in the car ride home last night, so I brought out my phone and started writing. This was all that came out....
Thoughts of hope
Thoughts of standing up
Thoughts of moving forward
Thoughts of running forward
Thoughts of thinking forward
Thoughts of dreams
Thoughts of never giving up, never giving in
Giving everything up
Thoughts of cry, of dying, and lying at his feet wiping our tears away
Thoughts of needs
Not wants
But needs
The need for water, medicine, shoes, parents, children, friends, hope, joy, peace, comfort, provision, a vision, decision, a Savior
Thoughts of words, of intention, of invention, the mind, and the power that there in lies, and everything that comes from You, even me
Where do the thoughts go?
Why can’t there be thoughts?
Thoughts with feet
Thoughts with size twelve men’s feet
Thoughts with new running shoes from Foot Locker
Thoughts of all our thoughts that we ever thought possible
But that’s the thought we’re missing isn’t it?
Possible
Thoughts with feet become not thoughts at all
And the world we thought turns into the world we think and on the brink of this change our thoughts that we think begin to run
Run the race with no gold just a hold onto a hope
And a vision that we live in from now
And on
And on
And on and on and on and on and on
And on.
God is not interested in hoarding and ruling over your life. He is not interested in ordering you around and being the general, ordering you around and telling you exactly what to do. God created you, a creation with the ability to create because he wants to partner with you on creating a better world, a stronger kingdom, a more hopeful reality. He is not the God who tells you do this, or do that, he is the God that tells you to step out and simply so something. God doesn’t want to run your life, he wants you to run, and he wants to run beside you and be your guide, your trainer, and your motivation.
If God’s plan for the world was for Him to snap his fingers and mend this broken world, then he would do it. He’s God. He can. God he doesn’t do that. Because God wants to use me and you. He wants to give meaning to our lives by working through us to bring that change to the world. That’s your purpose. God doesn’t want you waiting around for him to move you somewhere, he’s already moving. That little flicker of desire in your heart that grows every time you think about it, that idea, if you begin to run towards that, you will run directly into God’s heart because chances are, he gave you that idea, that flicker of desire. Simply stated, if you’re wanting deep down to follow after God, stop waiting for him to move, and begin to move yourself in the direction of your heart, because that is where we run into Him.
