In 2003, 31 year old Ben Affleck starred in Daredevil, Paycheck, and Gigli. For his performances in these three films, Affleck earned the Razzie Award (which are like the anti Academy Awards) for worst actor of the year. Not only that, but in 2010, these performances (among others) earned Affleck another Razzie Award nomination, for worst actor of the DECADE. Gigli also won the Razzie Award for worst comedy in the last 25 years and is ranked in the top 100 worst movies on IMDB.
In 2012, 40 year old Ben Affleck directed, starred, and produced Argo. The filmed earn Affleck a Golden Globe award for Best Director. Argo won nearly 100 major film awards including the Academy Award for Best Picture.
When accepting the Best Picture Oscar, Affleck had this to say…
“You have to work harder than you think you possibly can. You can’t hold grudges. It’s hard, but you can’t hold grudges. And it doesn’t matter how you get knocked down in life, cause that’s gonna happen. All that matters is that you gotta get up.”
Usually here is where I would make the grander point about how this applies to all of us, but I think you get it. Yeah?
By the way, do you know who was one of the first people that Ben Affleck thanked in the speech? Martin Brest, the director of Gigli.
