I think it’s first important to notice how we phrase these questions.
“How do you point someone towards peace?”
“How do you help them, or point them back to God when they’re doing through a difficult time?”
Being there for someone in a tough time is a difficult line to walk. Because you want to be there for them, but at the same time you want the best for them. So you don’t want them to just sit in their mourning or their pain. You want to usher them back towards peace or towards Christ. It can be very difficult.
The best way that I have found for myself though, is that rather than trying to point them towards peace, or push them towards God, to instead be an example of peace or an example of what a Christ like life looks like.
Whether it’s being there for a friend, or it’s trying to witness to someone, our mission as Christians is not so much to convince people that our way of living is right. Our mission is to compel people to the life we have discovered, and I believe that the best way to do that is to live it out fully. Be a living example of peace. Be a tangible example of Christ in somebody’s life.
