Like I’m not getting anywhere.
Like I’m running into the same wall over and over again.”
Regardless of the pursuit, industry, or endeavour, I think we can agree that one thing we all desire is progress. If we could just get a sign that we’ve made some forward movement toward our goal, then maybe we could find the strength to keep going.
The problem with progress though, is that it rarely feels like progress, at least not in the moment. In the moment, it feels a lot like being stuck, drained, exhausted, or burnt out. In the moment, it feels like we’re not getting anywhere, like we’re running into the same, stupid wall over and over again.
Most of the time though, these feelings are not as negative as they seem. What we don’t notice are the small cracks appearing on the other side of the wall every time we smash into it. We’re incapable of seeing how close the glass is to being filled, filled with the exact stuff we’ve been trying to pour into it. That’s why we feel so drained.
We have a hard time looking for progress, because the signs aren’t so obvious. Most of the time, progress is invisible. Most of the time, the feeling of progress is disguised as the feeling of being stuck, drained, exhausted, burned out...well...you get the idea.
