“Oh crap,” you think, “I shouldn’t have done that.”
No matter how confident you were while climbing up, once your feet lose contact with that board, you’re no longer in control. Gravity, physics, nature, and other outside forces now control your fate, and you’re sure you’ve made a terrible mistake. Then, seconds later, you hit the water, and you realize that while scary, it certainly was not a mistake to jump. In fact, you can’t wait to do it again.
That feeling, that “Oh crap”, high dive feeling, that’s the feeling you should seek when you sit down at your computer, when you turn on your camera, or when you walk into the office.
That feeling, that feeling of taking a leap and surrendering to forces outside of your control, that is the feeling of making art. And once you do it, once you jump, you can’t wait to do it again.
