“Do you think people would buy this?”
“How did I sound?”
“Can I get your thoughts on my writing?”
When you ask for feedback, do you really want it?
Or are you really just searching for a compliment?
We must be honest with ourselves in moments like these. If you need a compliment, then search out someone who encourages you when you need it. Feedback is a whole other animal. A true invitation for feedback means that I am giving away control. I am opening myself up to whatever the other person may say, or not say. If we decide that feedback is indeed what we want, then it’s time to set emotions to the side, check our ego at the door, and be ready for whatever is thrown at us, whether positive or negative.
