As my track record from 2014 shows, I'm always looking for ways to grow and challenge myself. This next year will be no different. However, as the audience of this tiny blog has grown, I feel a responsibility to serve it's readers. This means finding ways to grow and challenge you all as well. So be warned, in 2015, as I raise expectations for myself, I will also be raising them on you. (DUN DUN DUN)
Here's what you can expect in the coming year...
1) Longer posts
In the past, I have generally kept all of my posts to less than 500 words. This was done in a effort to respect your time and to prove that quantity does not always equal quality. This year though, in an effort to get very specific and deep with you all, expect to see at least one post a week upwards of 1,000-2,000 words and beyond. I'm expecting that longer posts will stretch me as a writer, you as the reader, and prove to increase the depth and specifics of the content of this site. Don't worry, I still believe in short posts, and they'll be there. But like I said, we're looking to stretch ourselves here.
2) More practical advice
Traditionally, the content I post would probably be described as 90% inspirational and 10% practical. Some people may scoff at this. I've scoffed at myself from time to time. The content seesaw in this blog is weighted very heavily on the "why" side of things and very lightly on the "how" side.
Let me start by saying that this should be expected. As a young, recent college grad of 23, discovering why I do what I do is simply where I'm at in life. I don't have a lot of specific "how" advice because I haven't been in the game long enough to learn many "how" tactics, much less have the ability to teach them. That being said, with another year of experience under my belt, I do want to start leveling out the seesaw and lean towards a few more practical, "how to" type posts. So instead of 90/10, perhaps expect 80/20. Baby steps, people. Baby steps.
3) Consistent invitation for feedback
As you can see, experimentation is going to be a huge part of the blog in 2015. In order for these experiments to pay off though, I'll need some help. I need you all to step up and do your part. Consider this a challenge, and if that word doesn't appeal to you, then consider it an invitation to provide feedback on any and all aspects of this blog. A huge reason why this site exists is to serve and help you, the readers. So help me help you by stepping up and sharing your thoughts. I can't promise that I will be able to implement everything and bow to every request, but I do promise to read every email/comment and seriously consider what you have to say. You all are important to me. Without you, I'm just writing to myself on here...and maybe my mom.
Still expect posts every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, videos from The Anima Series, Q&Jay Episodes and TEDxJons. Also, don't forget to stay tuned for the release of my second book, Created To Create, coming in January.
If I did not make it clear before, your support truly means the world to me. I look forward to, hopefully, continuing to inspire you to find your most creative self in 2015. Keep being awesome.
